First Sergeant Terril "Terry" Landers, U.S. Army, Ret., age 71, passed away on May 20, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Hahira, GA on November 1, 1945, he was the son of the late Floyd George Landers and Myrtice Tomlinson Landers. Terry proudly served his country in the United States Army achieving rank of First Sergeant, where he retired after 20 years. He served in both the Vietnam and Korean Conflicts where he was a recipient of: the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Following retirement from the Army, Terry accepted the position of County Service Officer for Anderson County Veterans Affairs for 20 years retiring in 2007. He was a member of Orrville Baptist Church, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Smith Landers of the home; daughters, Karen Landers Powell (Robbie) of Mt. Pleasant, Penny Landers Vassar (Chris) and Tomasas "Tommi" Landers Jordan (Russell), both of Anderson; a sister, Melody "Jan" Landers of Anderson; a brother, Floyd "Gene" Landers of Anderson; and three grandchildren, Bailee Parris and Carter Landon Jordan and Lillian Rose Vassar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nieces, Susan and Julie Landers. The Funeral Service will be held at Orrville Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dr.'s Wendell F. Bannister and Ron Fousek officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
