The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, South Carolina 29621864-224-4343OBITUARY WITH FLAGOSCAR SAM (SAMMY) CROKERANDERSON, SC -- On March 5th, at AnMed Health Medical Center, Sam Croker, age 78, was 'absent from the body, present with the Lord.'Sam was born in Atlanta, GA, in 1931 the son of Samuel Wesley Croker and Ezma Pace Croker. Sam attended Hiram High School and the Southern College of Pharmacy. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the war he worked for Dunaway Drugs in Marietta, GA, as a Pharmacist. In 1960, he moved his family to Anderson, SC, where he was a salesman for Eli Lilly Drugs. He went into a partnership with Ed Ozmint at Medi-Care Drugs and worked there as a Pharmacist until his retirement.Sam's sport was golf and sometimes he was on the course every day. In his lifetime he had four holes in one. Another hobby he pursued when he was younger was motorcycle dirt biking.Sam was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, basketball coach, head of security, and coordinator for Senior Citizen activities. He was on the Committee to start Oakwood Christian School and served as a member of the board of trustees.Predeceasing Mr. Croker were his parents; his sister, Kathryn Rakestraw; and twin sons: James and Perry.His survivors include his wife, Joanna; and children: Cherry Kent (Matt), Melissa Lyon (Jed) and Samuel Croker (Joye). Sam's fourteen grandchildren: Gretchen Skelton (Chad), Christy Steiger, Jonathon Lyon, Jeremy Lyon (Tiffany), Benjamin Lyon (Jen), Zachary Lyon, Sterling Lyon, Elliott Lyon, Geoffrey Lyon, Sydney Lyon, Jedman Lyon and Joe Lyon, Sophia and Amelia Croker. Greatgrands are: Grayson, Hayden and Aubrey Lyon; Cole, Owen, and Josie Skelton.The Funeral Service will be at Oakwood Baptist Church on Sunday, March 7th at 2:30 pm. Reverend Guy Roberts and Reverend Jeff Bartlett will officiate. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
