OSCAR RUSSELL Oscar Russell, age 86, passed away while being held in the arms of his daughter Gail on Monday, July 21, 2014, at National Health Care of Anderson. Born on May 11, 1928, in Coolidge, GA, he was the son of the late John Russum and the late Lizzie Norton Russum. He was the loving and faithful husband of the late Mildred Smith Russell. Mr. Russell proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. It was while serving in the military that his last name was recorded in official documents as Russell, and he decided to keep that name. Oscar retired from Owens Corning Quality Control Department after 34 years of employment. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Survivors include 2 daughters, Janice Lowe and husband, David, of Piedmont, SC, and Gail Russell of Anderson; 4 grandchildren, Kreig and Kurt Lowe, Krystal Herring, and Candice McGregor. In addition to his parents and his wife, Oscar was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Oscar Russell will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kinard officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Those choosing to do so may contribute in Oscar's memory to the Arthritis Foundation, 1330 W.
