GUNNELLS DECEMBER 31, 1930 - SEPTEMBER 21, 2013 ANDERSON, SC Mrs. Ruth Damon Gunnells, age 82, of 1825 Busby Road, Anderson, SC wife of the late James Frederick Gunnells, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Ware, MASS, she was the daughter of the late Irving Lincoln Damon and the late Sophia Milsop Damon. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst with a degree in Home Economics. She spent four years in the US Army Medical Service Corps as a registered dietitian posted to the hospital at Camp Pickett, VA and Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX, earning the rank of 1st Lt. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Anderson, SC. Survivors include daughter, Susan E. Gunnells of the home; son, David W. Gunnells and daughter-in-law, Dina of Laurinburg, NC; four grandchildren, Kayleigh Norris of Monroeville, AL, Courtney, Sean and Maegan Gunnells of Laurinburg, NC; a brother and sister-in-law, Allan L. and Claire Damon of Yorktown, NY and a sister-in-law, Helen Damon of Glen Carbon, Il. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert I. Damon The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with the Reverend Joyce Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 pm at Bold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carnesville, GA with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
