Staff Sergeant William Lonnie "Bill" Bennett, Sr. age 77, of 302 Whitehall Road, passed away at his residence on Friday, September 4, 2015. Born on August 15, 1938, in Gainesville, GA, he was the son of Ada Tipton Bennett of Columbia, SC, and the late Horace A. Bennett. Mr. Bennett distinguished himself with a career in the US Air Force from which he retired after twenty-four years of service to his country. He then worked for twenty-four more years as an agent with Allstate Insurance Company. Mr. Bennett attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Anderson. Survivors include his wife, Aurelia Sunshine Conner-Bennett of the residence; five sons, William L. Bennett, Jr. (Laurie) of Gainesville, GA, Gary Bailey of Lyman, SC, Darren Bailey (Beth) of Anderson, Trevor Bailey of San Diego, CA, and Travis Bailey of Anderson; two daughters, Kimberly B. Garrett (Rick) of Townville, SC, and Michelle B. Grasanno (Bill) of Lyman, SC; a brother, Bob A. Bennett (Marjorie Strall) of Anderson; and a sister, Gloria Jean Cooper (Jimmy) of Columbia; also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his father, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by a son, Scott Bailey. The funeral service to celebrate the life of William Bennett will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Committal Pavilion at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Marcaurelle officiating. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends following the service at M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
