Ada Lee Loftis Brown Anderson Mrs. Ada Lee Loftis Brown passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Grady C. Loftis and Mary Lee Cochran Loftis of Abbeville County. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Dan McIntosh Brown. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Sloan P. (Linda) Brock of Level Land; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marjean Loftis of Donalds and Mrs. Ruth Loftis of Greenwood; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Loftis, and three brothers, James, Ralph, and Grady Loftis. Mrs. Brown attended Erskine College for two years and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She taught Business Education for thirty years in several high schools in South Carolina - most recently at T.L. Hanna High School and Westside High School Anderson. As an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, she served as a delegate to the Annual Methodist Conference and as a member of the Church Council for several years. She was a member of United Methodist Women, St. John's Happy Group, Circle #5, and the Marshall Fant Sunday School Class, where she served as a teacher for many years. She was also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter L, life member and past President of the Heritage Garden Club, and Friends of the Library, and a former member of the Anderson Branch of the American Association of University Women and the Anderson County Woman's Club. She was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and teacher. She was an encourager and a motivator for those who crossed her path. She enjoyed teaching, reading, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Dan Batson officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritans Fund at St. John's United Methodist Church, 515 S. McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
