Afton L. Nix LaFrance, SC James Afton Lester Nix, age 76, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in LaFrance, SC, on August 19, 1938, he was the son of the late Lester Newton Nix and the late Mae Howard Nix. He retired from LaFrance Industries and had also worked for Milliken Industries. Afton enjoyed fishing, Nascar racing and motorcycle riding, but his passion in life was for "his girls", who he loved very much. He was a member of LaFrance Church of God. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Whitaker Nix, of the home; his daughters, Teresa Timmerman and her husband Raymond, of Clemson, SC, Diane Simpson and her husband John, of Iva, SC, and Joy Head and her husband Freddy, of Pendleton, SC; a sister, Audrey Randlett, of Forest City, NC; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one expected great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Green. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at LaFrance Church of God, with Reverend Roger Allison and Reverend James Shealy officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Clemson.
