Agnes D. Mitchell
Frances Agnes Dobson Mitchell, of 101 Cottage Creek Circle, Greer, passed away at her residence on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Born in Elberton, GA on May 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late James P. Dobson and the late Dovie Childs Dobson. For 49 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Swenton A. Mitchell until his death in 1993.
Agnes retired from Anderson County School District 5 where she was a dietitian for over 20 years. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, where she loved to participate in the travel and other activities of the Seniors Group. Agnes loved gardening, especially her roses.
Survivors include 2 sons, Alvin Mitchell of Mauldin, SC, and J. L. Mitchell and wife, Darla, of Greer; a daughter, Susan Mitchell of Simpsonville; 3 brothers, Glenn Dobson and wife, Rachael, of Marietta, GA, Johnny Dobson and his wife, Bob, of Gaffney; and J. P. Dobson of Washington, GA; a sister, Julia Webb and husband, Kermit, of Jupiter, FL; 4 grandchildren, Lee and Ryan Mitchell, Brandon Saltmarsh, and Robin Wilson; 4 great-grandchildren, Audrey Wilson, Spencer Mitchell, Eli Lewis, Ava Lewis, and A. J. Saltmarsh.
In addition to her parents and her husband, S.A., Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Gertrude Smith, Peggy Truitt, and Corrine Lovingood; and 2 grandsons, Al Mitchell and Jamie Mitchell.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cottages at Brushy Creek, Gentiva and Agape Hospice for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Mitchell during her residence there.
The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Mitchell will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Shane Hull officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of J.L. and Darla Mitchell, 109 Father Hugo Drive, Greer, SC 29650, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in memory of Mrs. Mitchell to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, 810 Maxwell Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646; or the Boys Home of the South, 10612 Augusta Road, Belton, SC 29627.
