Albert Marvin Free, age 90, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born December 7, 1935, in Knoxville, TN, he was the oldest child of the late William Free and Elsie Johnson Free. He was also preceded in death by 7 siblings. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Al was a baker for 57 years. Everyone loved his cakes, especially his old-fashioned pound cake! He was extremely talented musically and could play both the guitar and harmonica while also singing. He was in a band for over 30 years called the Blue Grass Express. He enjoyed telling jokes and would cut up with everyone. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Alma Martin Free; sons, Mark Free (Angie) and Darrell Free; granddaughter, Brittany Free; and great grandson, Joshua Noah Free.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 pm.
