JOHNSONOctober 21, 1915 - July 16, 2011Iva, SC ' Alfred George Johnson, age 95, husband of the late Vealie Ellen Angel Johnson, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Lemont, Illinois on October 21, 1915 to the late Nels Peter Johnson and Minnie Dorothy Hansen Johnson, Alfred graduated from Lemont High School then retired as a Master Sergeant in the US Marine Corps where he served in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He also served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was the USMC Marine of the Year in 1970. After his time in the military, Alfred worked for and retired from Union Oil Company. He was a master gardener and a long time pilot, up until he was 88 years old.Survivors include his children, Alfred H. Johnson of Grassvalley, CA, Debbie DeVries and Michelle Braun, both of Celina, TN, and Tami McDaniel of Greenbrier, TN; stepdaughters, Mary Greska of Phoenix, AZ and Cynthia Dumais of Anderson, SC;16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two cats, No Tail and Crook Tail.In addition to his parents and wife, Alfred was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.The Funeral Service will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.
