The Hochuli family moved and Alice spent her school years in Winnetka, IL, where she attended New Trier High School. When her father's job moved them to Washington, DC during World War II, Alice then attended Monticello Preparatory School in Alton, IL and continued on and graduated in 1947 from Monticello Junior College. Her class graduation was the cover story for LIFE magazine. Alice then enrolled at Brenau College in Gainesville, GA, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education in 1949. A member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Alice served as editor of the yearbook, President of the Cotillion Club and was selected for May Court. She was known to everyone on campus as 'Hoc'.At Brenau, she met the college president and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Josiah Crudup, and their oldest son Joe was her date for the Cotillion Club's spring dance. After a whirlwind courtship Alice and Joe were married on October 22, 1949. The couple lived in various cities in the South with Joe's job until their move to Anderson.Alice once gave a speech to graduating seniors at Brenau encouraging them to volunteer after graduation and she led by example. A Pink Lady at the Anderson Memorial Hospital, president of the North Fant PTA, a board member of the Salvation Army Girl's Club and a ghost storyteller at the library are examples of her service to her community. She was a member of the church choir and a long time Sunday School Teacher at First Presbyterian Church. She was well known as a substitute at both North Fant Elementary and TL Hanna High School where she delighted her students with ghost stories. An avid golfer and bridge player, Alice was a member of several bridge clubs. Alice and Joe loved playing golf together and with their family members and loved taking cruises to various parts of the world. She was a former President of 'Our Garden Club', served as Secretary of Senior Assembly and a member of Bird Club. She was a charter member of the Thursday Club and a former member of The Revelers Club. Alice loved her church, her friends, her children and grandchildren, but she was especially devoted to her husband, Joe.In addition to her parents and in-laws, Alice was predeceased by a brother Walter William Hochuli and a son-in-law Richard Esco Leopard.
