Alma Roach Johnson, age 86, was called home on the evening of Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Sandy Cross, GA on June 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Moody Dennis and the late Ruthie Ware Roach. Alma was raised on the family farm with three sisters, four brothers, and her parents. They moved to Ware Shoals in her teens. She worked at Michelin Tire Corporation, where she later retired. She had an especially close bond with her sister, Gaynelle, and dearly loved all of her siblings. The loss of her lively wit, perseverance and nurturing spirit will be missed by everyone who knew her. Her empathy and selfless love for others is forever etched in our hearts. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Charles "Chuck" Johnson, Jr. (Karen), and Dennis Johnson (Myra); a daughter, Peggy Chamblee (John); granddaughters, Tara, Jillian, and Kacie Chamblee; a sister, Rosa B. Wells; a brother, Edwin Roach; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Johnson; and siblings, Gaynelle Fleming, Sue Hill, Harold, Melvin, and Calvin Roach. Her family, though brokenhearted at her loss, are celebrating her life, and that she has now joyously reunited with her loved ones and her Lord. They are especially thankful for everyone that showed her kindness recently, and over the years. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A private funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. with the Reverend Michael Kinard officiating. An interment service for Alma's ashes will be held at a later date at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
