Anna Gainey Spooner, 98 resident of Brookdale of Anderson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday August 28, 2016. Born in La Crosse, Florida on December 24, 1917, she and her late husband Robert (Bob) Spooner were married for 58 years and were residents of Plant City, Florida for over 70 years where they were active members of the First Presbyterian Church and involved community members. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and a faithful member of her church Circle and Bible study groups. After being actively involved in the early years of her children's lives and caring for her elderly parents Ed and Mamie Gainey who lived next door, she served as the secretary and office manager of Plant City High School for 17 years. A talented pianist, she loved sharing her gift playing for church, school, civic organizations and family gatherings. Some of her happiest times were entertaining with the hymns she loved and playing for her children to go to sleep at night.
After relocating to Anderson, South Carolina in 1995 to be near the children and to enjoy grand-parenting, she was an active member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and Young Memorial ARP Church. As a knowledgeable Bible student, a prayer warrior and someone who was always looking for opportunities to share the Good News, she mentored many friends and family in Florida and in South Carolina. She was truly known as a "Friend of God". A perpetual smile and contagious positive outlook born of her steadfast faith will always be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two children, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren-a son, Robert Edward Spooner and his wife Carol Ann of Dahlonega, Georgia; daughter Jane Spooner Cahaly and husband Phillip Charles Cahaly of Anderson, South Carolina; granddaughters Brooke Spooner Elgin and husband Scot of Anderson and Rochelle Spooner Brinson and husband Douglas of Dahlonega, Georgia; grandsons Benjamin Edward Spooner of Paradise, California and Joseph Stott Spooner of Dahlonega, Georgia; and grandsons Robert Charles Cahaly of Pendleton, Jason Phillip Cahaly and his wife Cindi of Ft. Mill, SC and Craig Andrew Cahaly and wife Andi of Anderson.
The service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Young Memorial ARP Church and family will be receiving friends in the church hall beginning at 9:30 AM.
