Obituary

Anthony Catalfomo, age 59, of Williamston, SC, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Greenville Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained when he was struck by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle on August 21, 2024.

Born May 4, 1965, in Providence, RI, he was the son of Gloria McDermott Catalfomo and the late Giuseppe Rocco Catalfomo. He spent much of his life in Smithfield, Rhode Island, but called South Carolina his home for the past 18 years.

Tony graduated from Smithfield High School, Class of 1983, received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Hartford in 1987, and earned his Master's Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2007. He worked as an electrical engineer at Teknor Apex Company for 27 years until joining Engineering Design and Testing Corporation (ED&T) in 2015. He became the CEO of ED&T in 2022 and was enjoying the challenge of growing the company.

When Tony was only 16, he met the love of his life and best friend who has been by his side for the last 43 years. He loved his family fiercely and was always active in their lives. When his children were young, he not only attended every sporting event they were involved in but also coached many of their teams. As they became adults, he remained involved by always being available for advice and wise counsel, or to just share a laugh. He was not just a coach and mentor to his children, but also to many young men over the years, and was proudly known as "Coach Cat."

He was an avid and experienced cyclist, typically riding 100 miles per week. His favorite ride was the "Cardiac Cats Century" ride he organized and completed with his sons in July 2021. Not only did he enjoy coaching youth football, but he was also a long-time fan of the Carolina Panthers and enjoyed cheering on South Carolina, Clemson, and NGU college teams to support all of his children's alma maters. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, more recently spending weekends relaxing in Hilton Head as well as exploring the beautiful sights of Sicily. You could often find him on a boat on "his lake," Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. Regardless of the occasion, he cherished sharing colorful stories and laughter with friends and family.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Keri Douglas Catalfomo; daughter, Dr. Kasey Catalfomo Broom, and her husband, Christian Broom; sons, Domenic Catalfomo and his fiancée, Kellen Hiott, and Lucas Catalfomo and his partner, Alexi Hecht; and granddaughter, Sofia Broom. He also leaves behind a sister, Frances Flynn; a brother, Joseph Catalfomo and his wife, Anna Catalfomo; nephews, Kevin Flynn, Luciano Catalfomo, and Dante Catalfomo; and niece, Macayla Flynn.

A celebration of Tony's life will be held on his 60th birthday, May 4, 2025, in Anderson, South Carolina. Please contact his family in April for details.
