Ardy Armen, age, 97 of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the residence.
Born in West New York, New Jersey on February 9, 1926. He graduated from Cornell University, and then earned his PhD in Chemistry at UCLA in Los Angeles, California in 1953.
Dr. Armen worked for Dow Chemical, later BASF, for 40 years retiring as a Research Scientist in 1997. He held research and management positions in California, Williamsburg, Va, and in Amsterdam, Netherlands, as well as Enka, North Carolina and Anderson, South Carolina. During his career he authored or co-authored 18 patents.
His activities included: Cardinal Racquet Club; Anderson Country Club; Anderson Duplicate Bridge community; and the Western Carolina Sailing Club. In addition to, the Friends of the Library; Anderson County Arts Center, and on the Board of Advisors of the Life Long Learning Center at Anderson University where he enjoyed teaching classes on Jazz and Big Band era music.
Dr. Armen was predeceased by his father, Garabed (born Kalajian) Armen; his mother, Perouze Balikjian Armen; his brother, Yervant "Eddie" Stepanian; his brother, Hagop "Harry" Stepanian; his sister, Serpouhi Kalajian Haroutunian, and their spouses; as well as his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Pushkarow Armen.
Dr. Armen is survived by his second wife, Patricia Armen; his son Glen Armen and his wife Terri; his daughter Diane Lee and her spouse, Steve Lee, and children Micah Lee, Nathan Lee, Melanie Ward, and David Lee.
Dr. Armen was a veteran of WWII.
A memorial service will be held in The Chapel at McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm, 2211 N. Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars or Meals on Wheels.
