Obituary

ARLENE ARENDS March 20, 1923 - April 18, 2012 ANDERSON, SC Arlene Lindgren Arends, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at National Health Care in Mauldin. Born in Moorland, MI, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Edna Lindgren. Arlene was the Valedictorian of Ravenna High School and then attended Michigan State University where she received a degree in music. She taught for several years, in rural Michigan, in a small one room school house. After teaching music and elementary school for many years she retired to Anderson with her husband. Continuing with her love for music, she became a member of GAMAC in Anderson. Arlene was a very active member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. She is survived by daughters, Christine DeBoer and her husband Peter of Simpsonville, Sarah Arends of Denver, CO; sister in law, Lorraine Schoenborn of Grand Rapids, MI; three grandchildren, David Gingrich of San Francisco, CA, Amy Cooke and Jessica Benefiel of Cary, NC; three great-grandchildren, Carlee Cooke, Patrick and Caroline Benefiel. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Nicholas Arends. A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Mrs. Arends will be held Friday, April 20, 2012, at 2:30 pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Mark Burchette. Interment will follow at The New Silverbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW Washington, DC, 20006 or Calvary Home For Children, 110 Calvary Home Circle, Anderson, SC 29621 Services: A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Mrs. Arends will be held Friday, April 20, 2012, at 2:30 pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev.
