Obituary

Anderson, SC ~ Arlene Joyce Wilson, 83, of Due West, SC passed away peacefully with two of her sons by her side, Sunday evening at NHC-Healthcare, Anderson. She was born (and raised) in Brooklyn, NY, on November 9, 1934 to Herbert James Green, Hants Harbor, Newfoundland and Anne (Clouter) Green, Catalina, Newfoundland. Arlene had a stunning mezzo-soprano voice and her joy for music lasted her lifetime. As a teen, she sang in Carnegie Hall with the All-City Chorus and was a soloist for many weddings and church programs. Her faith in God was always steadfast throughout her life, and as an ordained Elder, her church life and music worship was very important to her. She attended and was married at the Prospect Heights Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, NY; then moved to the First Presbyterian Church, Basking Ridge, NJ, and then to the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. For 8 years, she directed the Twelfth Commandment Choir of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Brick NJ and cut an album with this youth choir, "As it Is". Upon moving to South Carolina, she found her church home at the Due West ARP Church in Due West where she continued her love of worship and music in the choir and women's circles. Arlene's professional life was filled with success as she took her many talents to various positions. From a telephone operator in the early 1950's, to a bakery hostess, to a realtor, her career culminated with a 15 year position as an Activities Director at the Burnt Tavern Convalescent Center, Brick, NJ. There, her piano playing, singing, crafts and slapstick skits raised the spirits of the residents on a daily basis, only topped by the beautiful annual Christmas choral programs she spent months preparing. The residents and staff just adored her. Nothing brought "Grandma" more joy than the smell of pines in the Adirondack mountains, cold swims in a lake, gardening, her first sip of morning coffee she deemed "the elixir of life" and caring for family. Second to her piano, the kitchen was where you would find her whipping up a pan of bacon, cupcakes or a pot roast dinner with her infamous "carrot coins with honey butter". She loved us all with all her heart and will be missed beyond measure. We'll take comfort in that "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal" ~ Revelation 21:4. Arlene is predeceased by her parents, Herbert James and Anne (Clouter) Green and husband Richard Noel Wilson. She leaves behind her brother Herbert Charles Green and wife Christina, Clayton, NC; youngest son David Andrew Wilson, Due West, SC; her twin sons, Mark Allen Wilson, Due West, SC, Richard James Wilson and wife Lynda, Goodview, VA; grandsons Joshua Mark Wilson and wife Sarah, Columbia, MD, Christopher James Wilson and wife Carver, Kailua, HI, Tyler Richard Wilson, Albemarle, NC and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27th, receiving friends at 1:00pm, service at 2:00pm at the Due West ARP Church, 112 N. Main Street, Due West, SC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Arlene Wilson Memorial, c/o GHA Autism Supports, P.O.
