Arnold G. Hyder, Jr.
Arnold Graham "Buddy" Hyder Jr., 85, of Anderson, SC died January 12, 2014.
Born in Statesville, NC on May 2, 1928, he was married to Betty Laura Randolph for 63 years. He was the son of the late Arnold Graham Hyder, Sr. and the late Kathleen Alexander Espey Boyd.
Buddy was a graduate of Boy's High School, a member of the Class of 1945. He was a 1958 graduate of Clemson Agricultural College and a dedicated supporter of the University. Buddy worked his way through college by working nights at the US Post Office in Anderson. Prior to college, Buddy enlisted at the age of 17 in the US Navy. He was stationed at Norfolk VA and served in World War II as a Yeoman Third Class in the Mediterranean Theater on the USS George K. Mac Kenzie (DD-836). He received the World War II Victory Medal for his service.
Buddy was an industrial engineer and cost accountant for JP Stevens for over 23 years. He also owned Davis Gift Shop in Anderson with his wife for 9 years, retiring in 1981. Buddy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1953 and was a member of the BPOE Elk and Mason organizations.
Buddy was unwavering in his devotion to his wonderful wife Betty and in his love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his beloved wife Betty Laura Randolph Hyder of the home; two sons Arnold Graham "Buddy" Hyder III and his wife Martha of Anderson and Lee Champion Hyder of Anderson; three daughters Edna Kathleen "Kathi" Davis and her husband Charles of Anderson; Debra Annette McAlister of Anderson; and Nancy Elizabeth Robinson and her husband Bill of Simpsonville, SC; three brothers James, Alex and George Hyder; also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hyder was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Hyder, and a son-in-law Bruce McAlister.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 14 at the McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson SC. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Wednesday January 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, in Anderson SC, with the Rev. Paul Frey, Rev. James Hyder and Rev. Bob Carlisle officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials in honor of Mr. Hyder may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson SC 29621 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 1809 North Main Street, Anderson SC 29621.
