AVIN L. HUNTER February 11, 1925 - July 28, 2012 Avin L. Hunter, age 87, of 5800 Highway 81 North, Williamston, SC, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. He was born in Anderson County. He was the loving and devoted husband of Margaret Griffith Hunter, who preceded him in death December 17, 2011. Mr. Hunter was retired as an Electrical Supervisor at BASF where he was a dedicated employee for many years. Avin was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley, SC, for over 60 years, where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. He proudly served his country in the US Navy in WWII where he participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy Beach as a Ship's Helmsman aboard the US LST-355. He was an active member of the Anderson Chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Avin had many friends and family members who loved him dearly and consider him a true Christian Soldier. In his final months, he was cared for by his nephew Billy Griffith and his wife Cheryl of Williamston. These words do not begin to express the inspiration and motivation that Avin Hunter leaves behind with all that knew him. He was the epitome of a Godly, Faithful Servant of God and truly an Honorable man. He shall be sorely missed. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the beautiful life of Mr. Avin L. Hunter will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 3 PM, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Easley, with Dr. Jerry White officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The Dewitt Boggs Men's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escort. The family will be at their respective residences, and will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1 PM until 2:30 PM.
