Barbara Tolly Bruce, age 90, passed away peacefully at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC, on December 19, 2017. She was the daughter of the late William Frederick Tolly, Jr. and Lillian French Tolly. Born on October 30, 1927 in Anderson, SC, Barbara graduated from Girls High in 1945 and attended Anderson College. In 1947 she married her sweetheart, C. Arthur (Moe) Bruce, to whom she was married for 70 years. She often lovingly said to him, 'Honey, if you ever decide to leave me, tell me, so I can go with you.' At the age of six Barbara gave her heart to Christ thru the ministry of First Presbyterian Church. In 1974 she experienced a spiritual awakening and healing that dramatically changed her life. Her Christian witness helped bring about the Christian conversion of her husband and two children. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Moe, to insurance business trips, Elks conventions, trips to the beach, and Southern Baptist Lay Renewals. Barbara was a founding member of Northside Baptist Church, which later became Graceview Church. Important to her, besides her Lord, was her family. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members with a love that overflowed. She was always there for them with a prayer, a listening ear, a word of encouragement, a handwritten note, or a gooey dessert. They loved her and will miss her greatly. Barbara is survived by her children, Tolly Bruce Bryan (Kent), Art Bruce (Kathy); grandchildren, Leslie Quarles (George), Hayes Taylor, Jay Bruce (Amy), Will Bruce, Anna Jones (Eddie), Jerry Bryan, James Bryan (Kari); great-grandchildren, Jack Quarles, Beau Quarles, Lily Kate Bruce, Elizabeth Bruce, Clara Bruce, River Bryan, and Archer Bryan; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bruce Rowland (Joe). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Arthur (Moe) Bruce. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Barbara's life will be held on Friday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
