BARBARA CARTER
Barbara Ann Slaton Carter, age 81, of 1914 Providence Church Road, entered her Heavenly home on Monday, February 23, 2015, with her loving family at her side. Born in Townville, SC on December 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Washington Slaton and the late Ruby Blackwell Slaton. For 51 years, she was the devoted wife of the late Thomas Carter, Jr., until his death in 2001.
Mrs. Carter retired from Westpoint Stevens, formerly J. P. Stevens, after 49 years of dedicated service. Barbara enjoyed making clothing for her children and grandchildren as they were growing up. She loved flowers and enjoyed yard work. She was a long time member of Oakdale Baptist Church where she was active in the Young at Heart Club as long as her health permitted. Barbara loved her church family and made many friends over the years, both at church and in her community. Mrs. Carter was loved dearly by her family and many friends, and will be greatly missed. Her family rejoices that she is now with Jesus.
Survivors include her son, Joey Carter of the home; three daughters, Linda Gable and husband, Michael, Vonnie Griffin and husband, Dale, and Debbie Leighton, all of Anderson; two brothers, Martin Slaton and wife, Kathryn, and Allen Slaton and wife, Edna, both of Townville; nine grandchildren, Mike, Amy, Chris, Rodney, Lori, Andria, Melissa, Derrick, and Jackie; 12 great-grandchildren; also surviving is a special nephew, Billy Medlin and wife, Nancy, of Anderson.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Thomas, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a brother, Harry, and two sisters, Frances and Patricia.
The family wishes to express appreciation to employees of Hospice of the Upstate: Shannon, Mary, Kaci, and Susan, for the love and care provided Mrs. Carter during her illness.
