Obituary

Barbara Wright Curlis, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023. Born in Richmond, VA, on January 13, 1936, she was married for 58 years to Horace Eldridge Curlis, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2012. She was a mother to 3 children with 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was, with her husband, co-owner of The Curlis Company, a fixture on the Pendleton Town Square for 30 years. She was a past president of the Pendleton Merchants Guild and was instrumental in starting Pendleton's annual Christmas celebration and tree lighting on the village green. She was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Francis P. Wright of Pendleton, and her sister, Jacqueline Hott of Mustang, OK. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ridgie and Alice Curlis of Pendleton, daughter, Suzanne Curlis of Anderson, and son and daughter-in-law, David and Anne Curlis of Huntersville, NC. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brookdale Central, Lila Doyle in Seneca, and the Seneca team of Hospice of the Foothills for their caring and compassionate assistance. A private family service and burial at Memory Gardens in Clemson will be followed by a memorial service at Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that she be remembered with donations to either Grace Episcopal Church, 711 S. McDuffie St., Anderson, SC 29624 or Eternal Shepherd Lutheran Church, c/o LLC K-9 Comfort Dog, 220 Carson Rd., Seneca, SC 29678.
