Barbara Jean Welborn Ellison, age 84, of Greenville, SC, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born April 15, 1939, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Keys Welborn and Mamie Griffin Welborn Abernathy. She was married for 63 years to Alfred Allen Ellison until his death in 2020. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wesley Gerald Welborn and John Malcolm Welborn.
Barbara was a graduate of Girls High in Anderson. She and her husband raised their family in Greenville for 30 years before moving to Florida. She then returned back to Greenville in 2020 following her husband's passing. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where she was a member of the choir and prayer group as well as volunteering in other ministries of the church. She was known for her faithful relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Barbara was also a member of the Greenville Garden Club and Greenville Country Club. She was a devoutly focused mother, wife, and grandmother, serving family and friends with a bright smile and giving nature.
She is survived by her sons, John Allen Ellison (Ann) of Greenville, SC, and Mark Ellison (Charlene Proctor) of Myrtle Beach, SC; and grandson, John Keys Ellison.
The family will host a memorial service on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 am in Harper Chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. The family will receive friends also in Harper Chapel at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, 200 W. Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
