Barbara McCoy Newbern, age 82, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, at Dominion Senior Living at Patrick Square, Clemson, SC. Born August 6, 1940, in Halifax County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Herman Frederick McCoy and Fannie Stephenson McCoy, and grew up in Boykins, VA. She graduated from East Carolina University. Barbara was a lifelong educator and taught in various high schools throughout North Carolina. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed reading and puzzles. Her most cherished time was spent with family, especially her seven grandchildren who brought her great joy. She is survived by her son, Scott Tyler (Kim) of Greensboro, NC; daughters, Beth Murphy (Marc) of Anderson, SC, and Susan Tyler Boulton (Chris) of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Allie Boulton Locke (Charles), Tyler Boulton (Emily), Kat Boulton, Addison Tyler Hawthorne (John), Grant Tyler, Milo Murphy, and Blythe Murphy; and great grandson, Jay Boulton. A graveside service will be held Saturday June 24, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 1721 Legion Road, Chapel Hill, NC. The family request no flowers; however, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
