Simpson Bishop, age 71, husband of Marilyn Jeanette McGarity Bishop, of 256 Purdy Road, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at his residence.Born in Greenville, SC, Barry was the son of the late Simpson George Bishop and Ruth Bishop. He retired as a truck driver. He was a member of Carswell Baptist Church.He is survived by a son, Barry D. Bishop and his wife, Cindy of Greer; a sister, Elizabeth Anne Bishop Swords and her husband, Nelson of Williamston; a nephew, Boyd McGarity, raised in the home; brothers-in-law, Jimmy McGarity and Jerry McGarity, both of Iva; 6 grandsons; 2 great-grandchildren.Barry was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Bishop Geddings and a son, David Simpson Bishop.A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 2:00 pm at Carswell Baptist Church , with the Reverends James Bannister and Hudson White officiating. Burial of his ashes will follow at the Carswell Baptist church Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carswell Baptist Church Senior Class, 4301 Flat Rock Road, Iva, SC 29655.The family will be at the home.
