On April 3, 2018 Alton Beauford Drennon was called home where he entered the presence of his Lord and Savior and was reunited with his loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Iva for over 60 years, where he previously served as deacon.
He is reunited with his precious wife of 65 years, Elsie Drennon. They made their home in Iva, a community they dearly loved and served. Together, they had three sons: Craig Drennon, Sr. (Carrie); Danny Drennon (Cindy Jo); Tommy Drennon (Vicki).; four grandchildren: Craig Drennon, Jr. (Wendi); Christie Drennon Earley (Scott); Cory Drennon (Erin) and Ashleigh Drennon; nine great-grandchildren: Jessica Payne, McKinsey Smith (Curtis), Kaleigh Payne, Caid Drennon, Jovi Drennon, Addison Drennon, Cara Drennon, Jackson Drennon, and Hudson Drennon and one great-great grandchild: Payton Sexton.
Beauford was a wonderful grandfather who filled our hearts with love, life, and laughter. He will forever be remembered by his keen sense of humor. Beauford especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he took pride in teaching them all how to drive in the big blue truck long before they could see above the steering wheel.
Beauford served three years with distinction in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as veteran of World War II. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Beauford and Elsie began Drennon's Produce in 1947. They cherished their loyal customers and the friendships they made during their 70 years of doing business in the Iva community. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural ability to serve others. His attention to detail was legendary and he took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied. Later in his life, he became a successful real estate developer.
Other loved ones in heaven who predeceased him include: father, Donald Drennon; mother, Jesse Drennon; brother, J.O. Drennon; and sister, Mable Drennon.
Beauford was also blessed with a wonderful caregiver, Robin Jones.
The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to many close friends for their visits and loving acts of kindness.
