IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Becky
Henry
August 9, 1939 – March 8, 2024
Sara "Becky" Whitfield Henry, age 84, entered the Church Triumphant on Friday, March 8, 2024, upon her death at Summit Place of Anderson, joining her beloved husband, the late Lt. Col. Theron "Ted" Akin Henry, Jr., and other family and friends in eternity. Becky was a woman of strong faith, which sustained her all her life, but especially the last seven years without her Ted.
Becky was born in Anderson, SC, on August 9, 1939, to the late Albert Lee Whitfield and the late Millie Bannister Whitfield. She graduated from Anderson Girls' High School, Class of 1957, and began working in Anderson. On a Beta Sigma Phi sorority trip to Charleston, she met Ted, who had just arrived there via Air Force orders. They were later married on September 26, 1964, and were totally devoted to each other for 52½ years, until his death on March 1, 2017.
The Air Force brought many opportunities, and Becky embraced them all. The Air Force took them to Washington, D.C., to Tallahassee, FL, where their daughter Millie was born, to Colorado Springs, CO, where their daughter Noelle was born, to Anderson for a short stint, to Prattville, AL, and then finally back to Anderson for retirement. Over those years, many dear friendships were established. She also embraced the joys of homemaking, as her daughters fondly remember hearing the sewing machine running after they went to bed as children. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, playing bridge, and visiting with friends. Once Ted retired, they traveled as much as they possibly could and saw much of the world. She was also very active over many years at her beloved Central Presbyterian Church, where she served others in various ways through her gifts and lived life with her cherished Koinonia Sunday School Class. She also treasured her time spent with the Anderson County Woman's Club, where she served in several capacities, and the Anderson Free Clinic where she volunteered for many years. Above all her family was the most important treasure in her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Millie Kittrell (Ben) of Mooresboro, NC, and Noelle Read (Denny), of Anderson, her grandchildren, Trey Kittrell (Mallory), Ethan, Emily, Daniel, and Benjamin Read, her great-grandson, Benson Kittrell, her sister, Lynn Crittendon (John) of Anderson, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as dearest friends, John and Christiane Hauschild of Springfield, VA.
In addition to her parents and her dear husband, Ted, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bud Whitfield, and her sisters, Vivian Wright and Martha Meeks.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and A Celebration of the Life of Becky Henry will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC. Members of the Koinonia Sunday School Class are invited to comprise the Honorary Escort and will be seated together in the Sanctuary. Her daughters welcome family and friends to join them for a time of visitation immediately following the service until 4:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall to share memories of their dear Mom. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:00 am at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
The funeral service will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
The family will be at the home of Reverends Noelle and Denny Read.
