Bernice Jackson Sistare, age 88, of 104 Canterbury Road, Pendleton, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born November 8, 1928, in Mullins, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt Lamar Jackson and the late Flossie Bell Jernigan Jackson. For sixty-eight years, Mrs. Sistare was the loving and devoted wife of Joseph D. Sistare, Jr. of the residence. Following graduation from Britton's Neck High School, Bernice attended Winthrop College for two years. She later attended Western Illinois University from which she received her bachelor's degree in personnel management. Mrs. Sistare served as the Personnel Director for the Beaufort County Bus Line of Beaufort, SC. Later she worked for the Board of the Beaufort County Planning Commission. Mrs. Sistare was a member of Concord Baptist Church. In prior churches she served as a Sunday School teacher, Director of the Women's Missionary Union and on numerous church committees. In addition to her husband, Joseph, she is survived by a son, Joseph Dewey "Chip" Sistare, III and his wife, Karen of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren, Caroline Sistare of Greenville, SC and Cameron Sistare, who is a student at Florida State University. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale, LaVern and Manly Jackson. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Bernice J. Sistare will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Committal Shelter at M. J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veteran's Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. Don Cox officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at M. J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
