Bernice Fields Weathers, 88, of Belton, SC passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House. Bernice was born, September 15, 1934, in Anderson County and was a daughter of the late Lewis Fields and the late Lessie Smith Fields. She was married to the late Ollie "Howard" Weathers for 57 years before his death in 2012. Three brothers and one sister also predeceased her. Bernice was the last member of her immediate family. She worked as a nursing assistant for many years at Anderson Memorial Hospital, now known as AnMed Health Center. Caring for patients was her gift. Being strong-willed, compassionate, and caring, helped her excel in the nursing profession. After retirement, Bernice enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Patrick and the two spent countless hours in the Disney Store or at the movies with several of Patrick's friends. Bernice, also, enjoyed her animals. Buddy, her cat, would bring his friends home for dinner every day. Any time during the day, Bernice would be found reading her Bible and listening to Gospel music. She was a child of God and reveled in His word. A member of Second Baptist Church of Belton, she attended church as her health allowed. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Blackwell, grandson, Patrick Phillips, his wife Whitney and their children, Oliver, and Jonas. She also leaves behind her beloved nephew, Scott Haynes and best friend, Judy Bobo. The funeral service will be held at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 2 pm, with Reverend Chad Moore officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum where she will lie at rest with her husband, Howard. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC. The family will be at the home of her grandson, Patrick Phillips.
