Bessie May Hutchins Oxley, 78, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at NHC Healthcare Anderson. Born February 1, 1942 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late William Ulysses Hutchins and Janie Elizabeth Barnett Hutchins. She was the widow of William Oxley. Bessie was a member of the Red Hat Society and a member Orrville Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Christopher Vassar (Penny) and Jeffrey Vassar; grandchildren, Lillie Vassar, Brooklyn Chastain, Courtney Ballenger, Janie Leibell, Holland Church and Christopher Vassar; and great-grandchildren, Colton Ballenger and Charleston Chastain. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Lisa Vassar; and brothers, William Wade Hutchins and Johnny Hutchins. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:00 am in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Broadus Moody officiating. There will be a private family burial at New Silver Brook Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing will be observed.
