Obituary

Betty Frances Richey Gray, age 90, of Easley, SC, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024, at her home.

Born May 13, 1934, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas Richey and Elsie Teasley Rowland Richey. She was married to Ralph Arthur Gray until his death in 2015. She was also preceded in death by two children, Ralph A. Gray, Jr., and Giselle D. Gray; brothers, Edward Richey, and Roger Richey; and sisters, Thelma Ramey, and Jo Ann Alewine.

Betty was a long-time flight attendant having been the only student of her flight attendant class of 1200 to be chosen. Her career gave her the ability to travel the world and live in cities such as London, Paris, and New York. Her hobbies included sewing and shell hunting at the beach. She loved watermelon and was a master biscuit maker. She was an incredible Godly lady who lived out her faith every day. She was a true nurturer and caregiver to others. Betty was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Jonathan "Andrew" Gray (Kim); brothers, Calvin Richey (Mary Ann), Jerry Richey (Lynne), Louis Richey, and Jimmy Richey (Mary); sisters, Joyce Wentzky (Frank), and Mary Carter; and grandchildren, Jonathan A. Gray, II, and Jaime C. Grant.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Jimmy Richey officiating.
