Betty Jane Weinmann Mann, age 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at AnMed Medical Center.

Betty’s earliest days as Executive Secretary and house organ Editor of a Midwest insurance company displayed her interest in people. Born in Evanston, Illinois, she spent time raising a family and being involved in community and church in Northbrook, Illinois. As a Royal Welcome Hostess, she enjoyed a working relationship with businesses and merchant sponsors. Her on-going involvement in volunteer work led to employment as a meeting planner and project coordinator for Convention and Conference Consultants.

This activity of site inspection and planning for business seminars and retreats brought her to California as a meeting coordinator for the “The Great American Choral Festival,” where she met and later married Johnny Mann, the founder and president of GACF. She became the National Events Coordinator, assisting in the execution of the choral competitions in cities all over America, working with theater and auditorium reps, hotel and travel arrangers, convention and visitor bureaus, and the competing singing groups and sponsors.

In the fall of 1987 and 1989, Johnny Mann and his singer/dancers performed on tours of 10,000 miles in cities across the United States, involving Betty as tour manager. This involved costume design, road mother to eighteen performers, sound/lighting assistance and logistics of hotels and auditorium/theater contacts.

During the years 1991-1994, Betty took on the position of Medical Staff/Education Coordinator for Northridge Hospital Medical Center in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. She arranged speakers for physicians’ continuing medical education; planned and executed medical staff retreats/seminars.

After the move to the Palm Springs, California area, she was active in volunteer and church work, serving on the Leadership Team of Quiet Time Ministries as well as the Women’s Ministry Board for Southwest Community Church which earned her the Annual Leadership Award in 2004. Her work in the desert community involved the fundraising board of Shelter From The Storm for three years. She co-chaired the 1998 and then chaired the 1999 Northwood University Debutante Ball and Scholarship Showcase Gala as well as served as Northwood University Palm Springs Chapter President for two years. In November 1999, Northwood University honored Betty as a Distinguished Woman during their 30th year of selecting women of achievement all over the country.

After a move to Anderson, South Carolina in 2005, Betty served on the Board of Women’s Life Fellowship for seven years, sang in the annual Concert of Hope and Remembrance for the Cancer Association of Anderson, and was also a choir participant in St. John’s United Methodist Church choir. She also served at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the Catholic Women Serving ministry. Her volunteer involvements included Anderson County Library, Board member of the Lifelong Learning Institute of Anderson University, Mentor of Nursing Students at A.U. for 4 years, and Greater Anderson Rotary Member for 4 years. Betty also served as a volunteer at Anderson Pregnancy Care. Her passion was playing and teaching Bridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst J. Wienmann and Eleanor R. Wieczorek Weinmann; first husband, James Schulien; second husband, Johnny Mann; and brothers, Richard Weinmann, William Weinmann, and Robert Weinmann.

She is survived by her son, Peter James Schulien; daughter, Stephanie Barr (James); brothers, E. James Weinmann (Deb), Thomas Weinmann (Bridget), and Gerald Weinmann (Debbie); sister, Mary Long (Dan); stepdaughters, Susie Mann and Jennifer Mann; and grandson, Austin Kang.
