Mrs. Betty Ruth Bowen Smith, 84, of Anderson, SC died on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton, GA. Betty was born on January 7th, 1932 in Anderson, SC to the late Marvin and Reedia Thrasher Bowen. She was a bank teller for Wells-Fargo Bank from which she retired in 1993. Betty was widowed by her husband Garnett Smith in 1992 and was married to him for 24 years. Betty is survived by her daughter: Ginger Smith Hilliard of Toccoa, GA; one son: Brad Smith of Seneca, SC; one sister: Frankie Bowen Connor and husband Tom of Knoxville, TN; two brothers Kenneth Bowen of Anderson, SC and Edward Neil Bowen and wife Gail of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother- in- law Tommy Kilgore of Greenwood, SC; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by one sister: Linda Bowen Kilgore. A funeral will be held at The Mausoleum Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, SC on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at The McDougald Funeral Home.
