Betty Harbin Yates, age 88, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 17, 2023. Born September 12, 1934, in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Harbin and Estelle Whitfield Harbin. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Randall Yates and Donnie Yates; grandson, Joey Lark; brother, David Harbin; and sister, Maudie Gaines. Betty enjoyed a long career in the textile industry before retiring. She loved line dancing and performing skits with her husband though he enjoyed making people laugh rather than dancing. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she was involved in the clown ministry, performing for many community events. Betty's passion was her family and she was a wonderful and caring mother. Her children knew they were loved unconditionally, but they also knew she adored her husband Fred most of all. She is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years Fred D. Yates; daughters, Susan Yates Lark (Jerry) and Cathy Bailey; sisters, Edna Sutherland (Robert), Nancy Raines, Jane Wilson, and Joy Whitten; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 2:00-2:45 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. Tom Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.
