ATTENTION: OBITUARY MR. BILL BALLENTINEMAY 5, 1928 - DeceMBER 30, 2006 ANDERSON,SC Mr. Charles Major Ballentine, Jr. of 514 Timber Lane died on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Columbia on May 5, 1928 he was the son of the late Charles and Emma Ruth Ballentine. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Carol Whitten Ballentine; daughter, Whitney Hamrick & her husband Eric Hamrick of Greenville; son, Charlie Ballentine III & his wife Paula Clamp Ballentine of Anderson; five grandchildren: Justin, Preston & Kathryn Anne Hamrick and Brooks & Ben Ballentine; sister, Jan Ballentine Vestal & her husband Dr. Tom A. Vestal also of Anderson. Also surviving are a number of nieces & nephews. Mr. Ballentine was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He attended Boys' High School in Anderson and Clemson College. He was the owner and president of Bill Ballentine Motors. He was also a board member of the South Carolina Automobile Association. He was one of the founders of the Anderson Ski Bugs and was involved in many aspects of competitive skiing. He taught many Anderson young people how to ski. He was a member of the Anderson Sertoma Club and worked faithfully with Camp Sertoma kids. Bill was very proud of being an Eagle Scout also. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol and a private pilot. Mr. Ballentine was a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, December 31, 2006 from 2:30pm until 3:30pm. The Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home at 4:00pm on Sunday with the Reverend Dr. William R. Childs and the Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason officiating. A family committal service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson. In lieu of floral contributions, memorials may be made to the Heritage Fund of St. John's United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29624 or to the charity of one's choice.
