Billy E. Garland, age 88 of Anderson, SC passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Bakersville, NC, November 28, 1929, Billy was the son of the late William E. "Bill" Garland and the late Gertrude Winkler Garland. He was a graduate of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. He formerly worked with Exxon, was the owner of a successful Tom's Snack distributorship, and later retired from Sears. He was a Mason and a member of the Ruff Masonic Lodge. Billy was a faithful member of Robert's Presbyterian Church. Billy was an avid golfer, animal lover, bird watcher, gardener and devoted Clemson Tigers fan. He grew up in the 1930's in the deep mountains of western North Carolina and was brought up in an environment of hard work, the value of an education, family and Christian values. This foundation served him well throughout his life. He was the devoted husband for 25 years to Ann Rowland Garland, and is survived by his sons, Billy E. Garland, Jr. (Fran) of Gainesville, GA, and David Garland of N. Augusta, SC, and daughter-in-law, Laurie Garland of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Billy Garland (Jodi), Megan, Matt (Tomi), Austin, Brandon( Danielle) and Nathan Garland(Kevin Hauser); three great-grandchildren Caleb, Caleigh, and Cadence Garland; step-children, Julie Middleton, Jeff and James Wood; step-grandchildren, Julieanna and Josh Middleton; and nieces Jo Lynn Harvell and Ann Picard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Edens Garland; a son, Glenn Garland and his twin sister, Betty Garland Harvell. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 11:00 am until Noon at The McDougald Funeral Home where the funeral service will follow at 12:30pm in the Chapel officiated by the Reverend Dr. Jack Taylor. A private family committal service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Roberts Presbyterian Church, 2716 Hwy 187 South, Anderson, SC 29625.
