Mr. Robert "Bob" Furman Curry, age 99, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at National Health Care of Anderson. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Lenora "Pug" Russell Curry.
Born on June 25, 1915, in Greenwood County and named Robert Furman Curry, Jr., Bob dropped the suffix in adulthood. He was the son of the late Robert Furman Curry, who died when Bob was only 14 years old, and the late Annie Hughey Curry. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in England, France, and Germany. Bob was licensed as an optician in 1937 and practiced with a group of doctors in Greenville. He founded Carolina Optical Supply in Anderson in 1950. Although he sold the company in 1973, he continued to manage the business until his retirement in 1980. He was active in the Anderson Rotary Club for 50 years and a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Anne Dement of Raleigh, NC, and Robert Curry, Jr., of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, David Murray of San Francisco, CA and Shawn Murray of Seattle, WA; a brother, Jim Curry of Anderson, SC; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Springwood Cemetery, Greenville, SC, with Dr. James R. Thomason officiating.
