Robert Lee Hammond, age 88, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born October 16, 1933, in Greer, SC, he was the son of the late John Herbert Hammond and Thalia James Hammond. Bob was a graduate of Taylors High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Western Electric with over 30 years of faithful service with the company. He was an avid woodworker and an all-around handyman. Bob was formerly a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Greer and Taylors First Baptist Church in Taylors. He was currently a member of Boulevard Baptist Church. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Barbara Jean Hampton Hammond; son, Gordon Hammond (Carolyn); grandchildren, Brad Hammond, Andrew Hammond (Jenny), Ben Hammond (Laura), Brooks Hammond (Ashleigh), and Sarabeth Hammond (Dustin Newman); 8 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Hammond; and siblings, Helen Burnett, Jim Hammond, Ed Hammond, Frances Earle, and Tom Hammond. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 29, 2022, at 1:30 pm at Boulevard Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Austin Carty officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
