Bobby Gene Collins, age 87, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Columbia, SC on March 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Wyatt L. Collins and the late Ella J. Bryant Collins. He earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Wofford College and a Master's of Sociology from Vanderbilt. Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the Director of Benefits for Chatham Manufacturing and also taught Sociology and Anthropology at Surry Community College in North Carolina. Bobby was on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and spent many years as president of many social clubs. He was an avid tennis player, enjoyed gardening and reading. He was an active member of Boonville United Methodist Church in North Carolina and Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia. He taught Sunday School for many years in SC, and was District Lay Leader in NC. He is survived by his loving wife, Beulah U. Yates "By" Collins; his son, Robert Todd Collins and his wife Tammie, of Anderson, SC; his daughter, Paige Collins Adams and her husband Wesley, of Gastonia, NC; and ten grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Washington Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. John Stapleton and Reverend Patricia Parrish officiating.
