Vernon, age 87, of Anderson, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.Born in Hart County, GA, he was a member of Orrville United Methodist Church, a US Navy Veteran of World War II, and also served in the US Air Force. Mr. Vernon retired from Western Electric Company in Arlington, VA.Surviving are his son, Rodney Vernon; daughter, Vicki Land (Bill), all of Anderson; step-daughters: June Zibnack of San Jose, CA, and JoAnn Jacobs of Newport News, VA; two grandchildren: Lisa Caudle of Anderson, and Billy Land (Melissa) of Brandon, FL; two great grandchildren; and several cousins in FL, TX, GA, & VA. He was the son of the late Mattie Vernon and was raised by his grandparents, the late James and Nettie Vernon. Additionally, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean J. Vernon; a beloved aunt, Vicky Donnelly; and lifelong friend, J.H. (Hinky) McCurry.The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel conducted by the Reverend Jackie Arnold.
