Troy Bruce Byce, 67, of Anderson, SC passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019. Born May 16, 1952 in Anderson, SC he was a son of the late Troy Clyde Byce and Eleanor Kent Byce. Bruce was a 1970 graduate of TL Hanna High School. He attended Anderson College and graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in 1974. He was in textile management at JP Stevens in Anderson & Piedmont, SC. He also was a student recruiter for Greenville Technical College and then was an instructor at the District 1 Career Center, Williamston, SC. God used this time in Bruce's life to witness and touch many young students' lives. He was a devoted husband, father, and "papa". He is survived by his wife, Kathy Cothran Byce; sons, Chad Byce (Carrie) and Matthew Byce (Chelsea) all of Anderson; grandchildren, Caleb, Caroline, Braylon and Bailey; and brother Steve Byce (Amy) of Greenville. For over 40 years he was a member of the men's prayer breakfast that meets every Tuesday at 6:30 am at Mama Penn's, where all are welcome. He is an Eagle Scout and enjoyed working with cub scouts in earlier years. He was also an active member at North Anderson Baptist Church, where he loved leading missions. In 1988 Bruce started his life's passion as Director of Mission Development Ministries in Anderson. These missions help establish and support Baptist churches in the New England states and more presently supported Ministry Centers in the Appalachian Region of Kentucky, where he often coordinated mission teams from our area. Bruce was also a leader in the Lay Renewal program of the Southern Baptist Convention. The celebration of Bruce's life and death will be at 2 pm, Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Covenant Baptist Church with Dr. Rob White, Rev. Bill Rigsby, and Rev. James Dyar will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private family committal service will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
