Obituary

Robert Bruce McClure, age 72, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Valdese, NC, he was the son of the late J.P. McClure and the late Louise Benfield McClure. He was a 1961 graduate of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC where he had a standout football career playing for coach Gus Purcell, playing in the Shrine Bowl. He was a 1965 graduate of Clemson University, playing under coach Frank Howard, winning the 1965 ACC Championship. Following Clemson, Bruce began working in plastics manufacturing, retiring after many years and many successes. He was a wonderful artist, and had a passion for coaching children through college, but most importantly, Bruce had a fierce passion for his grandchildren, his children and his wife of 48 years. He will always be remembered for giving more than he ever received. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen McLain McClure; a son, Sean McClure, of Anderson, SC; daughters, Kelly Blose and her husband Bob, of Lexington, SC, and Lauren Mason and her husband Dusty, of Mt. Gilead, NC; a brother, Greg McClure, of Southport, NC; a sister, Judy McClure Middleton, of Atlanta, GA; and four grandchildren, Kyler Blose, Blaine Blose, Bex Mason, and the late Eris Mason. In addition to his parents and grandson, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Brian and Rock McClure, and one sister, Deborah McClure Randall. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dabo's All In Team Foundation, PO Box 1585, Clemson, SC 29633. A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.com.
