Jimmy Bryan Kernels, age 79, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, SC, he was the son of the late James C. Kernels and Virginia Owens Kernels Kennedy. Bryan was a graduate of Anderson Boys High. After 45 years of service in the textile industry as a department manager, Bryan retired. Upon retirement, he elected to continue to work. In 2001, He became the site supervisor at AFCO, Captain over security with American Services, Inc. Bryan was involved in martial arts, having a 7th-degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate. He was an active member of High Praises Church, where he was a member of the Safety Team and was an Usher. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Thomas Kernels; two sons, Marty Mitchell (Tonya) of Pendleton, and Shane Thomas and his wife Julie, of Pendleton, SC; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and three grand-dogs, Ranger, Samson, and Sasha. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Tom Kennedy; two daughters, Velessia Ertzberger and Janice Burton; and a brother, Ray Kernels. The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Kernels will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at High Praises Church with Pastors Chris Sustar and Scott Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
