He served his country during WWII when he joined the U.S. Army where he became a staff sergeant in the 98th Division. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon. He retired after 29 years of service from the Anderson Independent Mail.He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Danny Powell and his wife, Cathy of Anderson, SC, and Donnie Powell and his wife, Jane of Liberty, SC; one daughter, Sandra Powell Harbin and her husband, Charlie of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren Hannah and Tristen Powell; a brother, Neal Powell, and a sister, Ann Cole.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy, Owen, Claude, and Loyd Powell and sister, Clara Kelly.The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.The family will be at the residence.Flowers are optional.
