George Alvin Shira III, 74, of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at Rainey Hospice House. Born January 27, 1945, he was the son of the late George Alvin Shira, Jr. and Thelma Kuhn Shira. Butch grew up in Columbia, SC and graduated from A.C. Flora High School. He worked in construction as a welder and was a member of the Pipefitters Union. He was also the owner of Lake View Antenna Co. in Anderson. Butch was an avid sportsman as both a hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his time on the lake. He loved the Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tigers and was passionate about amateur car racing. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Divver Masonic Lodge No. 349 and was also a member of the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Betsey Ross Shira of the home; son, George Shira IV, his wife Brooke and their children, Olivia and Vivian, of Greenville, SC; and his dog, Bertha. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00pm Thursday, October 17, 2019 at The McDougald Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Co.
