The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, South Carolina 29621864.224.4343 OBITUARY w/ FLAGMason NorwoodAugust 7, 1928'February 25, 2010 Iva, SC- Mr. Callie Mason Norwood, age 81, husband of Betty Mitchell Norwood, passed away peacefully at Willow Creek Nursing Center in Iva on Thursday, February 25, 2010. During his illness, he was surrounded by his family. Born in Elberton, Georgia on August 7, 1928, Mason was the son of the late William Henry Norwood and Hattie Hammond Norwood. Mason was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked in the textile industry for 42 years and retired from Jackson Mills with 38 years of service. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #44. Mason loved farming and was one who led by example. He celebrated more birthdays during his lifetime than any of his deceased brothers and sisters as well as his parents. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Kenneth Norwood and his wife Sherry, Janice McCullough and her husband Gary, David Norwood and his wife Tammy, and Randall Norwood; three grandchildren, Garrett McCullough, Tyler and Kacie Norwood; two sisters, Kathryn Egri, Esta Burton and one brother William Norwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Stephen Norwood; siblings, Leslie Norwood, Lyman Norwood, Margaret Parnell, Jeams Norwood, Jack Norwood, and Maleecy Johnston. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Rocky River Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Reverend Stephen Payne. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military honors. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:30pm until 8:30pm.
