James Calvin Durham, 85, of Pendleton, SC passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at Linley Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Anderson, SC. Born March 7, 1936, in Pendleton, SC, he was a son of the late James Eddie Durham and Ruthie Haney Durham. He was married to the late Ruth Brown Durham. Calvin was the retired co-owner of Durham Brothers Used Cars in Pendleton, SC. He was sometimes known simply as "Punch." Punch and his brothers started buying and selling used cars in the late 1950's and continued until 2002. He was a deep thinker and never immediately answered any question until he had sufficiently pondered the situation. Calvin could always be counted on to do whatever anyone needed. He was steadfast, dependable, and responsible; he was the rock. If he had a fault, it would be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He will always be remembered for his dedicated love for his family and friends, his business acumen, and his enjoyment of golf. Many stories and friendships were formed on the golf course. Calvin served on the Town of Pendleton council for several years and was member of Fants Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Swaney (Wayne); grandsons, Jamie Swaney (Summer) and Josh Swaney (Tammy); 4 great granddaughters, a great great grandson and a great great granddaughter; lifelong friend, E. C. Dyar; and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will always remember the great times and love shared with Uncle Calvin. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by brothers, Tom Durham and Drayton Durham and sisters, Lula Mae Shults, Susie Riley, and Marie Swaney. Due to COVID concerns, friends and family may pay respects at the McDougald Funeral Home in Pendleton, SC on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 9 am until 4 pm and again on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 9 am until 1 pm. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Memory Gardens with Rev. Philip Blankenship officiating. The family will be at the home, 811 Crouch Drive, Pendleton, SC.
