Obituary

Carl Gottleib Oehmig, III, age 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Carl Gottleib Oehmig Jr. and Emma Reese Oehmig. Carl graduated from Anderson Boys' High School in 1957, where he was a multi-sport athlete and represented South Carolina in the Shrine Bowl football game. Carl attended Presbyterian College and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Following college, Carl had a successful 30-year career in the textile industry, serving in leadership roles with Abney Mills, and then serving as President of Anderson Cotton Mills. Following his career in textiles, Carl became a partner at Allied Realty and Palmetto Polymers. Throughout his career, Carl was an avid supporter of vocational rehabilitation, serving on the South Carolina Rehabilitation Board and winning a state award for employing and supporting people with disabilities. He also served as Chairman of OnJob Training for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. In 1994, Governor Carroll Campbell awarded Carl the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian award. Carl was appointed by Governor Campbell to the South Carolina Procurement Review Board, where he served both Republican and Democratic administrations for 15 years, becoming the longest serving member. Carl was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. He loved his family, his dogs, and living on Lake Hartwell. Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Brenda Riddle Oehmig. In addition, Carl is survived by his children, Carl Gottleib Oehmig IV (Leib) and his wife Lisa, and Annaliza Oehmig Moorhead and her husband, Kirk. He was the proud "Poppa" of CG and Hunter Oehmig, Kirkman and Graham Moorhead, Ariail Siggins Barker (Andrew) and Great Grandson, Matterson Gray Barker. He is also survived by his in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey R. Herbert, Dr. and Mrs. Larry D. Ratliff, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by an infant son, his two sisters Marguerite Oehmig Griffin and Millicent Oehmig Aiken, and his brother-in-law William Robert Aiken. A service for the remembrance and celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 20th, at Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson, SC. The family will be available for visitation in the sanctuary beginning at 9:30 a.m. The service to celebrate Carl's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Carl's generous heart and kind spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that his generosity continue by donating to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N.
