STEGALL March 3, 1927 - March 12, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. Carl Dayton Stegall, age 80, husband of Grace Griffith Stegall of 1111 Springdale Road, Anderson, SC, died Monday, March 12, 2007 at the Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Anderson County, SC on March 3, 1927, Mr. Stegall was a son of the late Hovie E. Stegall and Sudie Kay Stegall. In 1950, he graduated from Newberry College where he was installed in the Newberry College Basketball Hall of Fame and was a 1950 All-State basketball player. He remained active in the Newberry Alumni Association and the Letterman's Club. After college, Mr. Stegall was a teacher, coach and athletic director in Greenville, Columbia, Lexington and Anderson Schools for over 39 years, and retired from McDuffie High School in Anderson as Athletic Director. He was co-founder of the South Carolina State Basketball Coaches Association and was an inductee of the Brooklyn-Cayce High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a United States Korean War veteran and a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge F&AM. He was also a member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Piercetown Community of Anderson County, SC.Survivors include his wife, Grace Griffith Stegall of the home; daughters, Angela S. Alexander and Anna S. Taylor, both of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Paul Stegall of Greenville, SC, Clarence Stegall of Piedmont, SC and Joe Stegall of Easley, SC. Four grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by a brother, John Stegall.The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Marshall Sergeant and Reverend Gene Carroll. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson.The family will receive friends at funeral home on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.Flowers are optional.
