Carol M. Anderson, of Pendleton, SC, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born September 7, 1935 in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Calvin McCombs and Janie Mae McDowell McCombs.
Carol was a graduate of Belton High School, Furman University and earned two master's degrees from the University of North Carolina. She spent most of her career in education and formerly taught history at Palmetto High School and Tri-County Technical College where she was the recipient of the first Medallion for Instructional Excellence. Carol served as the National President for College Staff Development Programs and was selected to represent the U.S. by traveling to Taiwan to lecture to their Institute of Technology. She was a guide for People to People in Europe and enjoyed traveling all around the world.
Following her educational career, she became a realtor and certified real estate appraiser. She enjoyed going to the YMCA and was a big football and baseball fan. Carol was a talented musician and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and held the office of Elder.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, John Samuel Anderson; siblings, Jane, Cal, Wayne and Walt McCombs; and step-children, Debbie Culwell, and Sam Anderson, Jr. She was also loved by her numerous nieces and nephews and former students.
A memorial service will be held at the Citadel at a later date.
